Ohio cop accidently overdoses after making drug arrest

A Cincinnati TV station is reporting that the dangers of some of the drugs seeping into Ohio are placing law enforcement officers into danger. WLWT says that an East Liverpool officer made contact with fentanyl and carfentanyl while making an arrest on drug charges.

The undercover officer was searching a car when he noticed a white substance on the vehicle's seat and floor. When he went back to the police station, another officer pointed out that he had white power on his clothes. Without thinking, the undercover cop brushed the substance off of his clothes.

An hour later, he was unconscious and on the floor. The brief contact between his hand and the fentanyl on his shirt had resulted in an overdose. Fellow officers administered four doses of Narcan to revive him.

As many of our readers know, Narcan is a commercially available medication that blocks the effects of opioids, while fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that can be up to 100 times more powerful than morphine, according to drugs.com.

Experts say that carfentanyl is even more potent -- and more dangerous -- than fentanyl.

First responders carry Narcan not only to revive drug users who OD, but also in case medical technicians, cops or others come into contact with powerful drugs.

Those users who face criminal charges as a side-effect of their addiction can speak to an attorney dedicated to criminal defense. In many situations, defendants with proper legal help can avoid the worst punishments the law has to offer.
